Hotspot and tethering on your MTN Travel eSIM plan

Hotspot and tethering work over your MTN Travel eSIM line the same as over any mobile line, on every plan, and they're the simplest way to get a laptop, a tablet, or a child's device online without buying it a plan. Everything the connected devices use comes out of your plan's data, and on an unlimited plan it counts against the daily allowance.

Before you start

Where the hotspot switch is, by phone. iPhone: Settings > Personal Hotspot. Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. Other Android phones: Settings > Network & internet > Hotspot & tethering.

Steps

Check the MTN Travel eSIM line is the one selected for data (see the data-line setting).
Open the hotspot screen, at the path above for your phone.
Turn the hotspot on. On iPhone, that's Allow Others to Join; on Android, Wi-Fi hotspot.
Note the network name and password shown.
On the other device, join that Wi-Fi network like any other.

Good to know

Speed is shared across everything connected. On a fixed plan, a laptop on video calls or downloading updates uses data far faster than a phone does; for regular tethering, unlimited is the better fit. On an unlimited plan, you get 5 GB at full speed every 24 hours. After that, you stay connected at a reduced speed until the allowance resets.
Hotspot drains your phone's battery quickly. Keep it plugged in for long sessions.
A device that needs its own connection all the time is better off with its own eSIM and plan, under Add another device and plan in My plans. See A second device on the same trip: What it needs.
Your plan starts when you connect in a supported country, not when you buy. Your validity days count from that first connection. Unused data expires at the end of your validity period. It doesn't roll over.
